Ruopas was the focus of VTEM and FLEM surveys undertaken by S2 Resources in 2018 intended to confirm >6 km-long zone of anomalous copper and nickel identified in historic base of till (BoT) drilling by the Finnish Geological Survey. MMI geochemical sampling (also in 2018) led to a limited diamond drilling program (two holes) in 2021 which intersected minor sulphides. No further work has been undertaken since 2021, to allow S2 Resources and subsequently Valkea Resources to focus on the Paana property. Further work will likely include reinterpretation of the geophysical data and target reappraisal based on an updated regional structural model.
Geology
The Ruopas license encompasses mafic and ultramafic intrusive rocks of the Koli Sill Suite intruded into rift-related clastic metasediments of the Sodankylä Group. The entire package is affected by large-scale, polyphase folding and has been juxtaposed against younger Kumpu Group sediments along the northern margin of the license area by the Venejoki Thrust.
